UVI to Close at Noon on Sept. 23 in Advance of TS Karen

The University of the Virgin Islands will close at noon today as the Territory prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Karen, which is expected to impact the U.S. Virgin Islands on Tuesday, Sept. 24.  All non-essential UVI employees are asked to prepare their respective work areas prior to leaving at noon today. UVI classes are cancelled at noon as well.  

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. advisory, Tropical Storm Karen is located at 14.2 north and 64.4 west with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. Its present movement is at 8 miles per hour. There is a tropical storm warning in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The University community is asked to follow the emergency response plan and begin preparedness activities as necessary.  Information on steps to prepare for inclement weather can be found on UVI’s Emergency Preparedness webpage, which can be found on the bottom of the www.uvi.edu homepage or via this direct link: Emergency Preparedness. 

Students and Employees are encouraged to register for Bucs Alert through the MyCampus Portal at http://mycampus.uvi.edu and sign up for VITMA Alerts through www.vitema.vi.gov .
