National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

NSSE annually collects information at hundreds of four-year colleges and universities about first-year and senior students' participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The results provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college.

BCSSE collects data about entering students' prior academic and co-curricular experiences, as well as their expectations for participating in educationally purposeful activities during the coming college year.

Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE): The Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) was designed to complement the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which is administered to undergraduate students. This instructional staff version (for faculty, instructors, and graduate students who teach) focuses on:

  • Instructional staff perceptions of how often students engage in different activities.
  • The importance instructional staff place on various areas of learning and development.
  • The nature and frequency of instructional staff-student interactions.
  • How instructional staff organize their time, both in and out of the classroom.
  • FSSE results are available upon request. Years available: 2018, 2022. 2020 is not available because of COVID pandemic.

Cooperative Institutional Research Program Freshman Survey (CIRP): The CIRP Freshman Survey is designed for administration to incoming first-year students before they start classes at your institution. The instrument collects extensive information that allows for a snapshot of what your incoming students are like before they experience college. UVI administered the CIRP freshmen survey in Fall 2022.

Graduating Senior Exit Survey
