I was hired at an office when can I begin to work?  

  • If hired, a Student Record of Appointment (SROA) will be prepared for the student once there is a Request for Student Worker form submitted to the Student Employment Office. The SROA should be signed by all authorized persons for approval to work. The student must complete necessary employment documents (ex. W-4, I-9 etc-if not already on file). Students can verify this information with the Student Employment Office.

How can I get work-study?

  • Students are awarded work-study as part of their financial aid package. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 1st each year to be eligible for federal/institutional work study. It depends on the availability of funds. Students should obtain additional information at the Financial Aid Office.

How many hours can a student work on campus?  
  • Although, 10-20 hours per week is the recommended work week for students, more hours can be worked. However, students should not work more than 20 hrs per wk. if at all possible. UVI is dedicated to the educational success of our students and does not wish to keep students from their studies or limit participation in campus activities due to a demanding work load.

Will I be taxed on my Federal Work-Study earnings?

  • Yes. Income earned through Federal Work-Study is taxable.


How will I get paid?
  • You will be paid bi-weekly. Your check will be submitted to the office that you are currently employed.


How can a student become eligible for Employment?
  • A student must be registered, matriculated, maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (cannot be on suspension)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or an F1 International Students who have attended UVI for at least one full academic Year. F1 students who are hired must obtain a Social Security Card.
  • Submit a resume and complete the Student Worker Information form. Once submitted a student can be referred to job openings that are available.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE RATE OF PAY AND HOW MUCH CAN A STUDENT EARN?

  • A student can be paid at a range of $7.00-$11.00p/h. depending on available funds. Students can earn up to the maximum earnings listed on their Student Record of Appointment (SROA); Students should not exceed the amount indicated on their (SROA).

IS AN ON-CAMPUS JOB GUARANTEED?

  • No, students are not guaranteed a job on-campus.

IS THIS A "REAL JOB"?
  • Yes. Students will be working with career employees with definite functions that need to be fulfilled.


WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

  • There is no standard dress code. Students are expected to dress neatly, clean and within reasonable limits appropriate to your work environment.
