The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Medical Simulation Center is offering the Society of Critical Care Medicine's (SCCM) national certification training for healthcare professionals here in the U.S. Virgin Islands. SCCM’s Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) provider training course combines expert-developed lectures with hands-on skill stations to provide healthcare professionals, including non-intensive visits, with the training they need to manage critically ill or injured patients for the first 24 hours after injury or until appropriate critical care consultation can be arranged.

In addition to your hands-on training and skills checkoff, your registration includes access to online content, eBook, final exam, and continuing education units. Healthcare professionals from all backgrounds and different countries are receiving this training in the United States and it’s now here in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Topics covered include:

• Recognition and assessment of the critically ill patient
• Mechanical ventilation
• Shock
• Infection management.

Hands-on training is provided using the latest in high-fidelity manikins, virtual reality headsets, simulators, and task trainers. All equipment is used to enhance your training experience. Participants can complete training modules and test online; after the successful completion of the modules, they can come to the Medical Simulation Center for skills check-off certification on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
