Biography
Anna M. Clarke, DSW, CSW, serves as the Social Work Department’s Director of Practicum Education for the Albert A. Sheen and Dr. Orville Kean campuses of the University of the Virgin Islands. Her professional experience spans over thirty years on the island of St. Croix at private, non-profit, and governmental agencies, including the VI Department of Education as an educator on the secondary level. Dr. Clarke also served as the Coordinator of Family Programs at Virgin Islands University Affiliated Programs (VIUAP) under the auspices of the University of the Virgin Islands. She has also practiced as a medical social worker at the Virgin Islands Department of Health and Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital. Dr. Clarke worked with children, youth, and families at the Department of Human Services and as a Service Coordinator at Lutheran Social Services.
Dr. Clarke also worked with children, youth, and families as a therapist at Virgin Islands Behavioral Services, a private, non-profit agency. Before assuming her position as the Director of Practicum Education, Dr. Clarke was an administrator at the VI Department of Health. She has held all positions, from Secretary/Treasurer to President of the territorial board of the National Association of Social Workers, the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, and she was selected as Social Worker of the Year by this organization in 2012. Dr. Clarke is currently licensed in the territory as a Certified Social Worker (CSW).
Educational Background: Dr. Clarke is a product of the Catholic school system in St. Croix, VI. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and St. Joseph Catholic High School. Her educational journey took her to Clark Atlanta University, where she completed a Bachelor of Social Work. Dr. Clarke completed a Master of Education with a concentration in Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands and a Master of Social Work and Doctor of Social Work at Walden University.
