Reserve Rules

Unlike parks which are set aside for people, the UVI Wetlands Reserve is specifically set aside for wildlife. People are invited to visit the site but not to the detriment of the wildlife or the habitat. To ensure that the wildlife is not affected, certain activities are not permitted. Please obey the Reserve rules which have been established to protect you, the land and the wildlife.

ENCOURAGED USES:

  • Wildlife observation
  • Photography
  • Walking on designated trails
  • Small group (<15) visits (advance notice encouraged)


PERMITTED THOUGH NOT ENCOURAGED:

  • Swimming-no lifeguard on duty
  • Pets on a leash no longer than 10 feet; beach only
  • Picnics on reserve beach-please remove all trash

PROHIBITED:

  • Fishing in the salt ponds
  • Loud noises-birds are sensitive to noise, please keep the volume low
  • Crab pots, or collection of crabs
  • Driving on the beach (Territorial Regulation)
  • Walking on or disturbing wetland plants-vegetation is sensitive, use trails
  • Removal or destruction of any plants or animals
  • Unleashed dogs
  • Littering
  • Parking outside designated lot
  • Feeding wildlife
  • Horses-horses can disturb turtle and bird nests
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Any violation of VI or federal regulations
