The University's Board of Trustees approved policies and procedures to aide with the implementation of Act No. 8155, the Virgin Islands Higher Education Scholarship Program, which requires that financial aid be granted to residents of the Virgin Islands for post-secondary education at UVI. 



UVI Institutional Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students are awarded by The University of the Virgin Islands Scholarship Committee. All UVI students (freshmen, current, transfer, graduate and international students) will be considered for UVI Institutional Scholarships based on their application, academic transcripts, completion of the electronic application and other documents as required.

The number of institutional scholarships offered by UVI vary in amount and duration depending on availability of funds allocated by contributing donors/agencies. UVI Institutional Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s or master’s degree, as applicable.

All scholarship applications must be submitted electronically and include One (1) letter of recommendation which must be submitted as a pdf attachment to: uvischolarshipcommittee@uvi.edu. 


***Submission of a 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is strongly encouraged, although not required.***

Application Deadline Requirements

UVI's scholarship application deadline date is April 1, 2019.

To be considered a student must:

High School Eligibility:

  • Submit their ACT/SAT scores along with their one (1) letter of recommendation which must be submitted as a pdf attachment to: uvischolarshipcommittee@uvi.edu.

Undergraduate Eligibility:

  • Have earned at least 12 credits of academic study at UVI.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
  • Be a fulltime student matriculated into a degree program at UVI Be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident or F-1 International Student.

Graduate Eligibility:

  • Have earned at least 6 credits of academic study at UVI.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale.
  • Be a full time student matriculated into a degree program at UVI.
  • Be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident or F-1 International Student.

The Leon and Jamie Cook Leadership Scholarship


Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at UVI in any program of study on the Albert A. Sheen Campus; a U.S. Virgin Islands resident; exhibits academic excellence and maintain a 3.0 GPA; Required to perform 40 hours of UVI–related community service in the UVI Alumni Affairs, Development Office or Cooperative Extension Service (4 H) Office; Must submit an essay detailing your goals, career ambitions and an explanation of why you should be awarded the scholarship.The essay will have a 3-page limit (double spaced with 12-point font) and must be accompanied by two (2) letters of recommendation (one must be from a former or current teacher).  
Jane E. Tuitt Scholarship 4-year scholarship pays tuition, fees, contracted room and board, and an allowance for books.
VAL/SAL Scholarship 4-year scholarship for eligible students graduating as valedictorians and salutatorians at local high schools. Same benefits as Jane E. Tuitt.
Adele Galiber Music Scholarship 4-year scholarship for a Music Education major. Same benefits as Jane E. Tuitt.
Thurgood Marshall Scholarship 1-year award. Recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 1100, and must be a U.S. citizen.
Bank of Nova Scotia Scholarship 1-year award worth $2500.
India Association Scholarship 1-year award.
V.I. Rum Scholarship ** 1-year award.
Addelita Cancryn Scholarship ** 1-year award.
EDC Scholarship ** 1-year award.
Emerging Caribbean Scientists Programs (ECS)

6 scholarship and research programs sharing 1 common application for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Marine Biology, Mathematics, Nursing, Physics, Psychology and Process Technology students. Each year, we support more than 70 students with scholarships, research stipends, book awards and travel to conferences. To apply, please visit the ECS website http://ecs.uvi.edu.

** Unless otherwise indicated, most one-year awards range from $1,000 to $2,500. The number of scholarships offered in each category varies depending on money allocated by the contributing donor/agency.
