Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
University of the Virgin Islands Commencement Ceremonies will proceed as planned today (May 9, 2024) at 1 p.m. despite a power outage that is affecting some locations on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. Commencement will take place as planned at the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center which was not affected by the power outage.
UVI employees involved in Commencement activities should report to work as scheduled. All other employees should use their discretion as to reporting time based on personal circumstances and delayed openings at public schools.
Irons and steamers will be available in the Innovation Center for those involved in
Commencement activities.
UVI’s Physical Plant is working to repair issues related to the main generator unit.
The University community will be updated as needed.
