Master of Arts in School Counseling (MASC)

Program Details

Accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), the Master of Arts in School Counseling (MASC) program at the University of the Virgin Islands is a rigorous 48-credit hour program consistent with the 2016 Standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and its 2016 school counseling specialty standards.

Students enrolled in the program prepare for positions and careers as professional school counselors in the US Virgin Islands, broader Caribbean, continental United States, or elsewhere in the world. Academic coursework and experiential learning activities develop MASC students' dispositions and  professional awareness, knowledge, and skills that promote school students' development in the three domains of school counseling:  academic development; career development (which includes college awareness, preparation, and selection) and social-emotional (i.e., personal) development.

An application for graduate admission must be submitted to the University of the Virgin islands Office of Admissions. Applicants for matriculation must possess a minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. All requirements for the MASC degree can be completed via the Orville E. Kean Campus, St. Thomas; the Albert E. Sheen Campus, St. Croix; and the University of the Virgin Islands at University of St. Martin (UVI@USM) Campus.
