Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
The Mathematics major provides strong preparation for a wide variety of interests and career goals. The undergraduate mathematics courses prepare majors for graduate study, for positions in government and industry, and for the teaching profession. UVI offers a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree. Faculty advisors are available to speak to current and prospective mathematics majors regarding course planning, career opportunities, and preparation for graduate school preparation.
Graduating with a major in mathematics can prepare you for a wide range of career options if you are willing to invest the time required to perform well. Examples of these careers include:
- Airplane Pilot
- Computer Programmer
- Cost Analyst
- Data Scientist
- Financial Analyst
- Management Consultant
- Operations Research Analyst
What is perhaps more significant is that a mathematics major has skills needed by professionals in other areas who need mathematical models to gain insights or plan future work; this includes health professionals, urban planners, natural resource managers, and many others.
Entry level courses can be completed on either campus, but degree must be completed on St. Thomas campus.
Concentrations in Computational Biology and Computer Science are available.
