The Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS), a Sea Grant extension program of the University of the Virgin Islands, is teaming up with middle and high school students to raise awareness about the territory's environment. Students and faculty from the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School (BCB) will unveil their latest effort, a colorful mural at the school's entrance, from 7:45 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
The creation and display of the mural project is part of VIMAS' "The Reef is Closer
than You Think" community campaign. The images that help convey this message sprang
from the imaginations of these talented students and were brought to life with the
support of BCB Principal Carver Farrow and the guidance of art instructor Phoebe Schwartz.
Members of the media are cordially invited to take part in the public unveiling of
the mural at the school's entrance in order to help the BCB students and VIMAS spread
the word about how valuable a resource our coral reefs are and what we all can do
to help preserve and protect them.
