More than 21 University of the Virgin Islands student researchers will present original research at the 2026 Fall Student Research Symposium, held simultaneously on UVI's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses.

The University of the Virgin Islands reinforced its growing influence in global marine science as 23 researchers and students from UVI’s Center for Marine and Environmental Studies (CMES) delivered 26 presentations at the 16th International Coral Reef Symposium, held this summer, in Auckland, New Zealand.

Lomar Yearwood, a University of the Virgin Islands junior majoring in computer science, has won an Outstanding Poster Award at the Mathematical Association of America's (MAA) MathFest in Boston — one of only 26 posters recognized out of 93 presented at the conference. Yearwood's research uses mathematics and computing to explore how coral reefs across the Virgin Islands may be connected.
