UVI Board Advances Accreditation Response and Governance Improvements

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Board of Trustees, during a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 11, unanimously ratified a limited procurement policy exception to support the University’s response to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Show Cause action. The Board also outlined next steps to strengthen governance, audit oversight, risk management and institutional accountability following a governance development session and Board assessment.

UVI Board of Trustees to Hold Special Meeting on Aug. 11

The University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. The meeting will be held in person at The Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef on St. Thomas, immediately following the Board Retreat. Members of the public may access the meeting virtually via Microsoft Teams.

The University of the Virgin Islands' Reichhold Center for the Arts (RCA) invites the community to attend the free world premiere of The Mother of the Tide, an original short film created, produced and performed by participants in the Summer 2026 Youth Movie-Making Workshop. The premiere will be held on Saturday, July 25, at 6 p.m. at the Eldridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

UVI’s Virgin Islands Center for Autonomous Research Partners with NOAA to Deploy First-Ever Biogeochemical-Argo Ocean Float in U.S. Virgin Islands Waters

A robotic ocean float is now drifting through the waters south of St. Thomas, collecting the first biogeochemical water column data ever recorded in U.S. Virgin Islands offshore waters. The deployment, carried out in collaboration with NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) and the University of Miami’s Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies, marks a significant milestone for ocean science in the Eastern Caribbean and a major step forward for the Virgin Islands Center for Autonomous Research (VICAR), a program of VI-EPSCoR at the University of the Virgin Islands.
