How will artificial intelligence reshape your career, your business and the way we work? The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) and the UVI Research and Technology Park (RTPark) invite the community to explore these questions with internationally recognized futurist, author and AI expert David Shrier during two free public presentations on Nov. 3 and 10. From navigating career opportunities in an AI-driven world to building businesses powered by intelligent technologies, the discussions will offer valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing economy.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Shrier will present “Careers in the Age of AI” from noon to 1 p.m. at the 13D Research & Strategy Innovation Center on UVI's Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. The presentation will examine how AI is transforming traditional career paths, changing workforce demands and creating new opportunities. Students, recent graduates, educators and working professionals are especially encouraged to attend. A livestream watch party will be held simultaneously at RTPark on UVI's Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

“Artificial intelligence is changing the skills and opportunities that will define the future workforce, and we want our students to be prepared to thrive in this new environment,” said Dr. Pamela Moolenaar-Wirsiy, UVI vice president for Student Success and Innovation. “Through collaborations like this, we can connect students with leading experts who offer valuable perspectives on emerging trends and inspire them to think creatively about their careers and the opportunities ahead.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, Shrier will present “Creating the AI-Native Company” from noon to 1 p.m. at RTPark on UVI's Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. The discussion will explore how

entrepreneurs can use AI agents and other emerging technologies to launch, manage and grow businesses, potentially transforming the way small companies operate and compete. A livestream watch party will be held simultaneously at the 13D Research & Strategy Innovation Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.

The Nov. 10, presentation is co-sponsored by the Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs, with a special invitation extended to veterans, student veterans and veteran-owned businesses in recognition of Veterans Day on Nov. 11. The discussion will highlight how emerging AI technologies can create new opportunities for entrepreneurship, business ownership and economic independence. Veterans are encouraged to participate, along with students, aspiring entrepreneurs, small-business owners and other interested community members.

“RTPark's relationship with its client companies extends beyond business development to creating meaningful opportunities for knowledge sharing and community engagement,” said Kelly Pugh, client relations manager at RTPark. “David Shrier's participation demonstrates how these relationships can benefit UVI students, local entrepreneurs and the wider Virgin Islands community by connecting them with expertise and insights that can help shape their future.”

Shrier is a professor of practice in AI and innovation at Imperial College London, where his work focuses on helping businesses and governments navigate technological disruption. An internationally recognized futurist, author and entrepreneur, he has advised organizations on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and digital transformation. He is the author of several books, including Welcome to AI: A Human Guide to Artificial Intelligence.

In addition to his academic work, Shrier brings extensive experience as a technology entrepreneur and business leader. He has helped companies raise more than $1 billion in capital and has taken a high-performance computing company public on the Nasdaq stock exchange. His work also explores how AI is transforming business models, workforce development and economic opportunities, including his development of the Intelligence Capital theory, which examines AI's impact on work and the economy.

“AI is changing what individuals and small teams can accomplish, creating possibilities that would have been difficult to imagine just a few years ago,” said Shrier. “I'm pleased to have this opportunity to share insights with UVI students and the Virgin Islands community through our relationship with RTPark. Whether you're preparing for a career or exploring a business idea, understanding how to use AI effectively will be an increasingly valuable skill.”

Both events are free and open to the public, with refreshments provided. Attendees may participate in person on the host island or attend a livestream watch party on the sister island.
