Representatives from more than 17 federal and local law enforcement agencies will
be on hand for career fairs at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Croix on
April 2, and on April 3, on St. Thomas. The fairs, which are open to the general public,
will include recruitment officers representing a full range of law enforcement fields.
UVI students and other students are especially encouraged to attend. Interested persons
will have the opportunity to meet with recruiters on both campuses from 9 a.m. to
2 p.m. The St. Croix fair will be held in UVI's Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen
Campus. On St. Thomas, the fair will be held in the UVI Administration and Conference
Center.
The ever-evolving law enforcement landscape provides exciting and rewarding careers
in many disciplines, from forensics to criminology and criminal justice, from information
technology to political science. Other careers in the field require training in social
work, psychology and other liberal arts and science disciplines.
Federal and local law enforcement agencies expected to attend the UVI fairs include:
the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the
Internal Revenue Service, the Virgin Islands Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard,
the V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources, Homeland Security Investigations/Immigration
and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Transportation Security
Administration, the VI Department of Justice, the VI Bureau Of Corrections, the V.I.
Port Authority, the V.I. Taxi Cab Commission, the V.I. Superior Court, the National
Park Service, the U.S. Marshal Service, the U.S. Attorney's Office and others. The
V.I. Division of Personnel will have a representative to answer questions.
The St. Croix fair will also feature a diverse group of representatives from the Virgin
Islands' general business and services community. Participants are expected from social
service agencies such as the Women's Coalition and Lutheran Social Services. University
of the Virgin Islands units such as the Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning
(CELL) Center, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Virgin Islands
Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS) will also be featured. Some businesses expected include
Marshall and Sterling Insurance, Personal Touch Insurance, AFLAC, the VI National
Guard's Hero2Hire Program, O'Neal's Transport, Home Depot and CONNECTSPACE.vi (which
focuses on online work).
