The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) proudly crowned Asha A.S. Hyndman, 19, as the 45th Miss UVI, and Rayhan Sabur, 21, as the 2nd Mister UVI, during the 2025 UVI Ambassadorial Competition held on Sunday, April 20, at 6 p.m. in the LaVerne E. Ragster Administration and Conference Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus.

Under the theme “A Royal Wonderland: A Journey of Excellence, Elegance, and Enchantment,” the competition celebrated intellect, poise, and purpose—shining a spotlight on UVI students who exemplify leadership and a commitment to community engagement.

Hyndman, a junior majoring in Biology, captivated judges and the audience alike with her passion for service and eloquence. She also earned awards for Ms. Photogenic, Best Talent, and Best Ease of Manner. Her platform, Looking Good: Eye Care Education for All,” promotes equitable access to vision care, with a focus on early detection and treatment in underserved communities.

“I could not have reached this milestone without the unwavering support of my University,” said Hyndman. “My vision for UVI is one of inclusive representation—where every voice, from our royal court to our student organizations, plays a role in shaping our collective future.”

Sabur, a sophomore majoring in Applied Mathematics and a member of UVI’s Track and Cross Country Teams, was the sole male contender for the Mister UVI title. His platform, “Mental Health Output through Physical Activity,” encourages student-athletes and the wider student body to use physical wellness as a means to support mental health.

The Ambassadorial Competition, hosted by the UVI Student Government Association’s Joint Ambassadorial Committee, honors students who demonstrate academic excellence, cultural pride, leadership, and dedication to service.

As UVI Student Ambassadors, Hyndman and Sabur will represent the University at official functions, recruitment events, and regional initiatives throughout the 2025–2026 academic year. They will also serve as UVI’s delegates at the National Mister and Miss HBCU Competition in January 2026.
