The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is proud to announce the Second Annual Exhibition Showcasing Student Artistry, hosted by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ (CLASS) Communications and Performing Arts Department. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 29, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Evans Center Room (EVC 208) on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

This special exhibition will highlight the creative talents of both past and present students from UVI’s campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix. On display will be a diverse array of student artwork from visual arts courses, including drawings, paintings, and digital art—each piece a testament to the artistic growth and expression cultivated in UVI’s fine arts programs.

The featured courses are guided by esteemed faculty members Danica M. David, Shira Sofer, and Susan Edwards, who provide students with the tools and encouragement to explore their creative potential.

Student Art Exhiition

The promotional poster for this year’s event proudly features artwork by Yazmeen Turner, a student in the Painting I class, who reflected on her artistic journey: “At the beginning of class, I was hesitant and unsure about using acrylic as a medium. However, I feel I have grown as an artist thanks to the professor's teachings and critiques. With each painting, I could see clear improvement, and I became more confident in my technique. I'm excited to carry this knowledge with me into future projects.”

“This exhibition is more than just a showcase of student work—it's a celebration of growth, expression, and the power of creativity. Each piece tells a story of exploration and transformation. We’re proud to provide a space where students can develop their artistic voice and share it with the community. The passion and progress on display reflect the heart of what we do at UVI,” said Dean of CLASS,
 Dr. Kimarie Engerman.

UVI offers a variety of art courses and a minor in Fine Arts, giving students a nurturing space to explore their creativity. Beyond personal expression, students often find that Fine Arts studies enhance their academic research and career opportunities.

The exhibition is open to the public and presents a unique opportunity for community members to engage with the dynamic UVI arts scene and celebrate the creativity of emerging local artists.
