The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) invites members of the media to cover and photograph a special dedication ceremony celebrating the renaming of its tennis courts in honor of the late Dr. Fenella Anita Cooper, a pioneering educator, beloved coach, and community leader on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 5 p.m. on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
The 35th Legislature of the Virgin Islands enacted Act No. 8816 (Bill No. 35-0107), signed into law by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr., officially naming the tennis courts the Fenella A. Cooper Tennis Complex. The ceremony will honor Dr. Cooper’s lasting impact on education, athletics, and culture in the Territory.
The event will feature remarks from UVI President Dr. Safiya George, members of the Virgin Islands Legislature, former colleagues, and family members. A new sign bearing the complex’s name will be officially unveiled.
Members of the University Community are invited to attend.
