The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has announced an adjustment to tuition and fees for the 2025–2026 academic year, effective August 1, 2025. The change will impact both UVI’s Online Division (UVI Online) and traditional on-campus and virtual course offerings.
The tuition increase, which reflects rising operational and instructional costs, will help the University continue providing a high-quality, student-centered education while maintaining the critical services and academic resources that support student success.
“At the University of the Virgin Islands, our students are at the heart of every decision we make,” said UVI President Dr. Safiya George. “These tuition adjustments were made with great care and are necessary to sustain the quality and integrity of our academic offerings and student services. We remain firmly committed to providing an accessible, transformative education that prepares our students for success while also offering numerous financial aid opportunities to help students manage education costs.”
Understanding the Difference Between UVI Online and Traditional Course Offerings
UVI Online is a fully online degree program designed for adult learners and working
professionals, offering accelerated eight-week sessions and a flexible learning environment
independent of the traditional academic calendar. In contrast, traditional UVI courses—whether
held in person or delivered virtually—follow the standard semester schedule and are
part of the University’s on-campus academic programs. While both delivery formats
may include online instruction, only students enrolled through the UVI Online Division
are subject to UVI Online tuition and fee rates.
The adjustments include increases in per-credit tuition rates across undergraduate and graduate categories for UVI Online, as well as part-time, overload, and virtual courses not offered through UVI’s Online Division.

“These tuition changes support our goal to maintain academic excellence while ensuring that the University remains financially sustainable,” said Dr. Lora Bailey, UVI provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “We are investing in our faculty and strengthening support services that empower students to thrive at UVI and achieve lasting success beyond graduation.”
Dr. Bailey reminds students that financial aid including the Virgin Islands Higher Education Scholarship Program (Free Tuition), remains available to help eligible students manage their education costs. In 2025, legislative amendments to the Higher Education Scholarship Program expanded eligibility criteria to include part-time and UVI Online students seeking their first undergraduate degree. In addition, UVI policies were implemented to help students maximize financial aid through the Higher Education Scholarship program and other supplemental sources including federal, private and local awards. UVI encourages all students to explore scholarship, grant, loan, and work-study opportunities.
