The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is thrilled to announce the revival of the UVI Drama Club, bringing theatrical performances back to campus with its inaugural production, “Murder at Regent Manor”. This comedic murder mystery, supported by UVI’s Reichhold Center for the Arts, promises two evenings of laughter, suspense, and family-friendly entertainment at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11, and Sunday, April 13, at the Ralph M. Paiewonsky Library on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
“We are excited to bring live theatre productions back to UVI and to present our first play which offers something for everyone,” said Lindsey Trost, a UVI senior, actor and president of the UVI Drama Club. Trost, who is attending UVI as a National Student Exchange student from California, played a leading role in reviving the club and rallied fellow students to join. “We want the club to be a creative safe place for students to express themselves,” she said. Along with Drama Club vice president Jadynn Sibilly, the student-leaders have recruited other students, through informational meetings and auditions, to participate in the club and its first production.
Directed by Jonelle-Alexis Jackson, a Virgin Islander with extensive experience in the performing arts, “Murder at Regent Manor” brings together a talented cast of UVI students:
In this parody of classic murder mysteries, matriarch Imperia Regent shocks her undeserving nieces and nephews by leaving her entire fortune to the one niece she dislikes most. When a bloodcurdling scream is heard just after midnight, amateur sleuth Jayne Mayple, who happens to be seeking shelter from a storm at Regent Manor, finds herself entangled in yet another murder mystery.
Tickets for the play are available at the door for $20 for general admission, $10 for UVI staff and faculty, and $5 for UVI students (with ID).
“This production is not only a celebration of creativity and talent but also a testament to the resilience and passion of our students,” said Denise Humphrey, director of the Reichhold Center for the Arts. “We invite the community to come out for an evening of mystery and fun while supporting our students.”
The play is produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Denver, Colorado with support from the Reichhold Center for the Arts. For more information, contact uvidramaclub@gmail.com.
