The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) joins the Virgin Islands community in mourning the passing of Violette Roach Browne, a beloved member of the Roach family with longstanding ties to the University and the Territory. UVI extends its thoughts and prayers to the Roach family and all who are grieving this loss.
Roach Browne was the sister of Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach, an esteemed alumnus, former professor and supporter of UVI. Her family’s deep commitment to education and public service has left a meaningful impact on the University community. Her brother, Ian Roach, also served the institution with distinction as Special Assistant to UVI President Dr. Safiya George and as a Research Associate with UVI Caribbean Exploratory Research Center under the leadership of Dr. Noreen Michael.
On behalf of the University, President George expressed heartfelt condolences. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the Roach family during this time of profound loss. The University of the Virgin Islands is grateful for the many contributions this family has made to our institution and our broader community. We stand with them in mourning and honor the memory of Violette Roach Browne, whose life touched so many.”
