Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands’ 62nd Commencement Exercises on Thursday, May 14, at 1 p.m. in the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas and on May 15, at 1 p.m. in the Island Center Amphitheatre on St. Croix.
The event’s keynote speaker, Adam O’Neal, professionally known as “Adam O,” an internationally recognized Virgin Islands singer, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, and cultural ambassador whose work has helped elevate Caribbean music on the global stage. At the Commencement Ceremony on St. Croix, the University will bestow an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters on Rena Brodhurst. As publisher and editor of The St. Croix Avis, the longest continuously published newspaper in the history of the U.S. Virgin Islands, she advanced a multigenerational legacy defined by courage, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to free speech and a free press. She is a committed publisher and editor who, for more than four decades, has carried forward a profound responsibility to inform, uplift, and give voice to a community whose stories deserve to be told.
