UVICES  and USVI Agriculture Business Center Partner to Offer Hands-On Beginner Training

The USVI Agriculture Business Center, in collaboration with the University of the Virgin Islands School of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service (CES), will host two free Canva workshops designed to help farmers, fishers, agriculture-related nonprofits and small businesses create simple and professional marketing materials.

The workshops will be facilitated by Dara M. Cooper, Agribusiness Counselor at the USVI Agriculture Business Center, and will introduce participants to the basics of Canva, a user-friendly online design platform commonly used to create flyers, social media posts, promotional graphics, presentations and other business marketing materials.

The trainings will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas, in the CES New House Conference Room.

To provide greater accessibility, participants may choose from two available sessions:

  • Morning Session: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Evening Session: 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The workshops are intended for beginners and will provide step-by-step instruction for participants with little or no prior graphic design experience. Participants will learn:

  • Canva basics and navigation
  • How to create flyers and promotional graphics
  • Simple social media design techniques
  • Tips for branding and visual marketing
  • How to create content to promote products, services, and community events

“This workshop is about helping our farmers, fishers and community organizations feel more confident promoting the important work they do,” said Cooper. “Many people have great products and services, but need simple, affordable tools to help them market themselves more effectively. Canva can make that process much easier.”

The workshop is free and open to farmers, fishers, agricultural entrepreneurs, nonprofits, cooperatives, and agriculture-related small businesses throughout the Virgin Islands.
