While many know the University of the Virgin Islands for its campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix, UVI is also home to a third campus — one designed for students whose schedules, careers and responsibilities require greater flexibility. That campus is UVI Online.

It is both an honor and a homecoming for me to welcome you to this edition of Bucs Life as I begin my service as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the University of the Virgin Islands.

As part of President Safiya George's ONE UVI vision and the University's GRAND Momentum Strategic Plan, the Office of the Provost continues to strengthen collaboration and integration across all academic affairs units while recognizing the outstanding contributions of faculty throughout the institution.

A veteran radio talk show host and owner general manager of DaVybe Radio, Turnbull’s broadcasting roots trace back to his days as a commuter student at the University of the Virgin Islands. In 1987, he enrolled in UVIs engineering 3-2 program before discovering his passion for mathematics and switching majors. He graduated in 1992.

The University of the Virgin Islands recently welcomed representatives from Tropical Shipping to the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas to celebrate the company’s longstanding partnership with UVI’s Youth Ocean Explorers (YOE) program and its lasting impact on young people throughout the territory.

University of the Virgin Islands researchers are contributing to a landmark study that is reshaping scientific understanding of how coastal wetlands support wildlife and how those benefits may be threatened by rising sea levels.

Though he was born in Philadelphia, Hunter Simpson has always known where home truly is. “Though I was born in Philadelphia, I moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands when I was three years old, and I consider the USVI my home,” Simpson shared. Growing up immersed in Virgin Islands culture shaped both his identity and his ambitions. “For as long as I can remember, I always felt as though I belonged more within the culture of the Virgin Islands. My love for the culture has brought me to where I am now, making soca music at the professional level.”
