Program Description
UVI's Summer Bridge Program focuses on a student's transition from high school to college during a five-week, residential, academic program held on the Albert A Sheen Campus on St. Croix and St. Thomas Campus.

Bridge students will jump-start their college careers at UVI by gaining an advantage over the typical freshman. How? Because this summer bridge program is specifically designed to assist students in excelling on UVI's placement tests. As a result, bridge students qualify for college-level course work in their first year, and will forgo taking remedial, non-credit courses.

Currently, significant numbers of students are taking at least one not-for-credit, remedial course in math or language arts at UVI. These students are paying more money and spending more time on their education and yet are less likely to actually complete their degree requirements.

For the duration of the bridge program, participants will benefit from professional development and college success workshops. Please note that participants will return home for the weekends.

In addition, participants will:
  • learn how to utilize UVI's campus resources to include researching in the library
  • be advised about their individual degree programs
  • attend workshops on college life and faculty expectations
  • attend workshops on critical thinking and note taking

By the end of the program, participants will recognize UVI's Summer Bridge Program as essential to their successful transition to college life. Former bridge students Leandra Walls,, or Rokeyah Conner, can attest to that.

* While there is no cost to the student for housing, classes or meals, students are asked to pay a one-time $25 fee that will go towards first-aid health services, accidental insurance and access to technological services on campus. In addition, travel costs to and from any UVI campus are not included in this program. The program is valued at $3,000 per student.
