UVI Launches New Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate

Of those 22 women, three are from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). The Eastern Caribbean Center of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has completed the mapping of the U.S. Virgin Islands and will begin the 2024 Virgin Islands Community Survey (VICS) interviews this month. This scientific survey of a sample of households is a follow-up to the one conducted in 2018. The information collected is like that gathered in the Population and Housing Census of 2020.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Board of Trustees voted to appoint Dr. Safiya George to serve as the University’s sixth president at a meeting held Wednesday afternoon following an extensive presidential selection process. Dr. George will succeed current president, Dr. David Hall, whose contract will expire on July 31, after serving the University with distinction since 2009. Dr. George will assume her role as UVI’s new president in August 2024.

Graduate guard Brea Patterson’s 21 points lifted the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) women’s basketball team to its first victory in a 54-47 win over the Lady Wildcats of Wiley University on Thursday evening at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. Patterson’s 21 points led all scorers. UVI (1-13, 1-9) got off to a slow start and fell 12-2 after the opening tip. Despite the slow start, the Lady Bucs were prepared for the challenge as they would score 10 unanswered points to even things up. The Lady Wildcats pulled slightly ahead of the Lady Bucs, but UVI would battle its way back into the game knotting things up at 18 all.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 11 a.m. advisory, Hurricane Tammy has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour and is moving toward the west-northwest near 7 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue through this afternoon. A turn toward the northwest is anticipated by Friday evening, followed by a north-northwestward and northward turn Saturday night through Sunday night.

The project examines the effects of stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD), which first appeared in 2014 in the waters around Florida and began spreading to the Caribbean in 2018-19.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and the University of St. Martin (USM), signaling the joint commitment and cooperation to offer the Bachelor of Education on Saba and Sint Eustatius.

In the regular session of its quarterly meeting on March 3, on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and the Administration and Conference Center Building on the St. Thomas Campus, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees unanimously approved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies – Strategic Communications to be offered as part of the UVI Online program.
