UVI offers summer camps, college prep programs, research programs, and a teacher training program.  

4-H Summer Academy

The philosophy of the UVI-CES 4-H Summer Academy is to promote academic excellence though experiential learning to embrace the social and emotional development of the whole child, youth have opportunities to participate in educational programs, field trips, and outdoor activities in a fun, safe, well-structured, nurturing environment. This six week summer enrichment program is designed for 5-14 year old enthusiastic learners who desire increased critical thinking skills, problem-solving techniques, and creativity. Campers have the opportunity to better realize their potential by exploring a wide variety of subjects; including mathematics, science, reading, language arts, computer science and writing. Math Behind the Science

Summer Program for High School Students & New Freshmen:
NSF HBCU-UP Math Behind the Science summer bridge program - 6-week residential program to prepare students to enter calculus and provide a foundation for success in other studies. Summer Research Programs for STEM Undergraduates:
  • NSF HBCU-UP Summer Sophomore Research Institute - Summer stipends and housing for Biology, Chemistry, Marine Biology, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science sophomores & juniors to conduct research and attend research methods workshops within their disciplines.
  • NSF HBCU-UP Summer Undergraduate Research Experience - Summer stipends (and housing assistance, if needed) provided while doing a research project with a faculty mentor, and attending weekly research meetings and presentations.
  • Final scientific poster presentations are required at the end of the program at the Summer Research Symposium.

UVI Summer Bridge

UVI’s Summer Bridge Program assists incoming freshmen to jump-start their college experience.  Bridge students participate in a number of activities aimed at improving their competencies in Critical Reading, Writing and Mathematics by taking an entire semester of credits in one summer.  Additionally, the program provides students with exposure to the knowledge and skill necessary for success in college.  At the end of the program, students are given the UVI Placement tests.  Students who successfully take these tests place out of skills courses and move directly into college level classes upon enrolment at UVI.  For more information, contact Jennifer Palmer on the St. Thomas Campus, Michelle Albany on the Albert A.
