for Leadership and Management Development - GILMD (previously known as Summer Institute
for Future Global Leaders in the Caribbean). As you surf through the information about
the Institute, we hope you will be enriched by the vision of academic and industry

spirit that brings us together in the quest for effective leadership and management
in this dynamic global environment.
Background
In the summer of 1995, the University of the Virgin Islands, in collaboration with
the University of the West Indies and Inter American University launched the Summer
Institute for Future Global Leaders in the Caribbean (now called Global Institute
for Leadership and Management Development - GILMD).
Leadership and Management Courses
Given that effective leadership and management are vital for running any organization
successfully, I would like to encourage you to apply to study either the BUS 400 or
BUS 540 course designed to provide training and education from a multi-disciplinary
perspective to equip current and future leaders and managers anywhere in the world
who are passionate about making a difference! This is also an opportunity for students
from the USVI and other countries to network, visit businesses and historical sites,
as well as participate in a Cultural/Talent Night, etc.
BUS 400 (Undergraduate Course)
This course is designed to examine the major dimensions of global leadership and management
from a multidisciplinary perspective. It aims to equip participants with vital knowledge
and functional skills necessary for leadership and management roles in the global
business environment that is being constantly shaped by global forces of technology,
commerce, and communication. Participants will learn how to apply, analyze and evaluate
important theories, concepts, and models pertaining to global leadership and management
development. The course is suitable for students in business, education, liberal arts,
social science, nursing, science, mathematics, psychology, social sciences, tourism
and hospitality, social work, public administration, communication etc., who wish
to pursue leadership and management roles in their respective career disciplines.
Course Credits - 3 Credits
BUS 540 (Graduate Course)
This intensive course focuses on leadership and management from a global strategic
planning, and decision making perspective. It aims to equip participants with vital
knowledge and functional skills necessary to assume leadership and management roles
in the global business environment that is being constantly shaped by global forces
of technology, commerce, and communication. Participants will learn how to apply,
analyze and evaluate important theories, concepts, and models pertaining to global
leadership and management development. The course is suitable for students in business,
education, liberal arts, social science, nursing, science, mathematics, psychology,
social sciences, tourism and hospitality, social work, public administration, communication
etc., who wish to pursue leadership and management roles in their respective career
disciplines.

International Conference on Leadership, Management and Strategic Development
Given that organizations in this competitive local and global environment need leaders
and managers who are able to effectively and efficiently lead, plan, organize, select
appropriate staff, direct, co-ordinate, budget and evaluate situations, I would like
to encourage you to attend the annual International Conference on Leadership, Management
and Strategic Development that the Global Institute for Leadership and Management
Development hosts in May.
The Conference for 2017 will be from May 23-25. Information about the Conference theme, track areas, submission of papers, registration fee, etc., for the 2017 Conference
(May 23-25) may be found on the conference page of this website.
Who can attend our programs and conferences?
Academics and non-academic staff, as well as university/college students, and any
person interested in leadership and management development in any industry and sector
of the economy (including people in agriculture, construction, education, fishing,
finance, forestry, insurance, hotels, restaurants, health care, manufacturing, mining,
retail, real estate, trade, transportation, tourism, government and semi-government
organizations) can apply to attend our programs and the 2017 Conference.
