UVI Students Awarded $47K in 13D Entrepreneurship Business Launch Competition

June 11, 2021 - Three University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) student entrepreneurs were awarded $47,000 at the annual 13D Entrepreneurship Business Launch Competition held virtually in May providing them with valuable start-up funds to pursue their business ventures. Jessica LaPlace, Christina Lee and Lateefah Evans earned $24,000, $17,000, and $6,000 respectively thanks to the generous sponsorship of Viya and 13D Research, the namesake sponsor. The 13D Competition is designed to eliminate the obstacle of financing for UVI student entrepreneurs who have great ideas for potentially profitable businesses but no access to start-up capital. UVI to Confer Over 300 Degrees Earned by 2021 Graduates

May 12, 2021 - On Friday, May 14, the University of the Virgin Islands will confer over 300 degrees earned by graduates in the Class of 2021. An online ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. for graduates from the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas and the UVI extension campus, the University of St. Martin on St. Martin. Multiple social media sites will carry the event to include, UVI’s official YouTube channel, Facebook and Twitter pages. April 16, 2021 - The University of the Virgin Islands Student Government Association invites the public to the 41st annual Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition on Saturday, April 24, at 6 p.m. Themed “The Great Gatsby of the 21st Century,” the ambassadorial competition will be streamed online. UVI Communication Students Take Home Awards at National Conference

March 19, 2021 - Communication students at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) won top awards at the 70th annual Southern Regional Press Institute (SRPI) virtual conference last month. Jada Roberts, George Francis, and Kalyna Nielson received third place for ‘Best Public Service Announcement’ for their video presentation on the Jerusalema Dance Challenge. Kendrekus Jackson received third place for ‘Best Radio Podcast’ and M’Kayla Sullivan received second place for ‘Best Photograph’ in a feature story. March 09, 2021 - The University of the Virgin Islands announced that the priority deadline to apply for UVI and for the "Free Tuition” Higher Education Scholarship Program (VIHESP) is April 1st. In order to be eligible for the “Free Tuition” Scholarship Program residents: must be a graduate of a public, private, or parochial school in the Virgin Islands, without regard to age, date of graduation, or household income; must be a full-time student pursuing a first undergraduate degree; and earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 2.5 or higher upon graduation from high school. National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation’s Donation to Expand UVI Sea Turtle Research & Conservation Program in the V.I.

March 08, 2021 - The University of the Virgin Islands Sea Turtle Research and Conservation Program has received a generous donation in the amount of $60,000 from the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation. UVI’s Glass Crusher Project Gearing-up to Accept Glass Waste for Recycling

February 23, 2021 - For years, the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) through its Coastal Cleanup initiatives has picked up glass beverage bottles and other trash that littered Virgin Islands beaches and shores. Through UVI’s Glass Crusher Project, the University is gearing up to accept glass waste from the community, to improve recycling efforts in the Virgin Islands. Commencing March 27th, the University will host a glass collection effort on the last Saturday of each month at the former West Bay Supermarket parking lot, near UVI, from 9-11am. Read More

February 04, 2021 - St. John School of the Arts (SJSA) in collaboration with the United Jazz Foundation (UJF) will virtually present an Evening of Classics and Jazz with the University of the Virgin Islands Music faculty, students and special guests on Friday, Feb. 12. There will be a “Mingle with the Musicians” event starting at 7 p.m. via Zoom and then the virtual concert begins at 7:30 p.m. This concert is part of the annual Sis Frank Concert Series that has been bringing world-renowned musicians to St. John.
