Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the official Investiture Ceremony University of the Virgin Islands President Dr. Safiya George, on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. in the Elridge Wilbur Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas and live streamed to UVI Facebook and YouTube pages. A viewing area will be set up in UVI’s Cafeteria on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is hosting a series of events to honor the historic inauguration of its sixth president, Dr. Safiya George, and celebrate the 63rd anniversary of its charter. Community members, alumni, friends and supporters are encouraged to participate in the celebrations, which will culminate with the official investiture ceremony on March 17.

Two University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Hospitality and Tourism Management students received a scholarship award of $10,000 each that will propel their future educational and career goals. Last month, Mekeisha Milfred and Judah Frett were awarded the 2025-2026 Margaritaville Vacation Club Scholarship from local vacation club resort Margaritaville Vacation Club – St. Thomas, which is part of Travel + Leisure Co., a leading vacation ownership and membership travel company.

In January, an international team of researchers from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), University of Rhode Island, East Carolina University, University of Papua, the National Research and Innovation Agency, and the Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund convened in West Papua to explore effective strategies for conserving and restoring mangrove and seagrass ecosystems. This meeting was a pivotal step in preparing for the establishment of a Global Center for Blue Climate Solutions.

This transformative summit is designed to inspire, educate, and equip students ages 12-18 with the tools and skills they need to succeed in their academic, personal, and professional lives.
