The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Board of Trustees voted to appoint Dr. Safiya George to serve as the University’s sixth president at a meeting held Wednesday afternoon following an extensive presidential selection process. Dr. George will succeed current president, Dr. David Hall, whose contract will expire on July 31, after serving the University with distinction since 2009. Dr. George will assume her role as UVI’s new president in August 2024.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Lady Buccaneer basketball team opened its three-game road trip with a loss to conference foe, Fisk University, on Thursday night, 80-40, at the Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium in Nashville.

Despite a hot start, The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men’s basketball team fell to the Bulldogs of Fisk University 68-56 after running out of steam in the second half of Thursday night’s Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) matchup at the Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium in Nashville.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Buccaneers men’s basketball team upset Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) foe Philander Smith University (PSU) 74-71 at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center on Saturday night. The win gave UVI its fourth win on the season and second in GCAC play.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Lady Buccaneer basketball team dropped the final game of their four-game homestand in a 64-42 loss to the Lady Panthers of Philander Smith University (PSU) on Saturday afternoon at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center.

Graduate guard Brea Patterson’s 21 points lifted the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) women’s basketball team to its first victory in a 54-47 win over the Lady Wildcats of Wiley University on Thursday evening at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. Patterson’s 21 points led all scorers. UVI (1-13, 1-9) got off to a slow start and fell 12-2 after the opening tip. Despite the slow start, the Lady Bucs were prepared for the challenge as they would score 10 unanswered points to even things up. The Lady Wildcats pulled slightly ahead of the Lady Bucs, but UVI would battle its way back into the game knotting things up at 18 all.

The public is invited to attend the 52nd Annual Agriculture and Food Fair of the U.S. Virgin Islands from Feb. 17-19 at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex, Estate Lower Love on St. Croix. The theme is “AGRICULTURE: Our future and so much more in 2024.” The entrance fee is $6 for adults, $4 for children, and $5 for senior citizens. The fair will open daily from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., with opening ceremonies scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men’s basketball team dropped the first game of their four-game homestand to Bleu Devils of Dillard University 67-59 on Thursday evening at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. In celebration of Cultural Night, fans in attendance were treated to the sights and sounds of the Rising Stars Steel Orchestra, the St. Thomas Majorettes, and the UVI Cultural Titans.
