Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands School of Agriculture unveiling of two new sorrel varieties developed at UVI, “Festival” and “Midnite.” This event will take place between 10 a.m. and noon on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the University’s School of Agriculture, Agricultural Experiment Station field plot on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, recently awarded up to $4,123,164 to the University of the Virgin Islands to retrofit the dormitories and library on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
SRPI Virtual Conference

Communication students at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) won top awards at the 70th annual Southern Regional Press Institute (SRPI) virtual conference last month. Jada Roberts, George Francis, and Kalyna Nielson received third place for ‘Best Public Service Announcement’ for their video presentation on the Jerusalema Dance Challenge. Kendrekus Jackson received third place for ‘Best Radio Podcast’ and M’Kayla Sullivan received second place for ‘Best Photograph’ in a feature story. The conference, hosted by Savannah State University, had participations from Bethune Cookman University, Georgia Highlands College, Augusta University and North Carolina Central University.
Dub Lab Reggae Band

The Reichhold Center for the Arts is launching a new project aimed at showcasing the artistic talents of Virgin Islanders. The concert series, dubbed RCA Sessions, will launch as a live streaming event on Thursday, March 18, at 7 p.m. featuring local reggae band Dub Lab. Concert viewers will enjoy bi-monthly performances by local performing artists who are encouraged to explore their creativity and develop works that exemplify their art form.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is celebrating the 59th anniversary of its charter with a wide range of events including a formal Charter Day Ceremony marking the occasion when the University, formerly known as the College of the Virgin Islands, was officially created by the V.I. Legislature in 1962.

The University of the Virgin Islands, Division of Student Affairs on both campuses are working with Ascendium’s Project Success to offer paid internship opportunities for students to complete their course requirements for graduation. The program will be administered through the Office of Student Employment, collectively, with the University’s schools and colleges to provide paid opportunities for students enrolled in student teaching, clinical, and internships beginning the Summer of 2021.

The University of the Virgin Islands Sea Turtle Research and Conservation Program has received a generous donation in the amount of $60,000 from the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation. The purpose of the donation is to continue supporting research efforts surrounding the critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtles and lead to the creation of an action plan for the recovery of hawksbills in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
