In the regular session of its quarterly meeting on October 25, on the St. Thomas Campus, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees voted to increase tuition by five percent, set the alumni giving goal to 54.49 percent and set the annual fund goal to $2.5 million cash.

The University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, in the first floor conference room of the Administration and Conference Center on the St. Thomas Campus.

Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the announcement of the University of the Virgin Islands’ 2014 alumni giving rate at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) will host the 11th annual “Voices That Count” forum from Oct. 23 to 24, in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, and from Oct. 28 to 29, in the Administration and Conference Center on St. Thomas.

The University of the Virgin Islands concludes a series of election forums with sessions for 2014 governor and lieutenant governor candidates on St. Thomas, on Wednesday, Oct. 22, and on St. Croix, on Thursday, Oct. 23. Sessions for candidates for lieutenant governor are scheduled from 6 to 7:15 p.m., with gubernatorial candidates following from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on both days.

The University of the Virgin Islands will open on its normal schedule today, Tuesday, Oct. 14.

UVI is currently operating under its normal schedule as administrators monitor the approach of Tropical Storm Gonzalo.

The Caribbean Writer has launched Volume 28 of the University of the Virgin Islands’ international, refereed, literary journal with a Caribbean focus.

A group of fifth through eighth graders, along with Department of Education officials and community leaders, will sit down to a “Hunger Banquet” at the Great Hall on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16.

The University of the Virgin Islands received its largest real estate gift with the donation of 65 acres in Estate Sorgenfri on St. Thomas.
