Three budding student entrepreneurs at the University of the Virgin Islands now have an additional $60,000 in funding with which to pursue their dream businesses following the final round of the University’s annual 13D Student Entrepreneurship Competition held April 23, on the St. Thomas Campus.

Caribbean Food Crops Society

Over 200 agriculturists, representing 22 countries will converge on St. Thomas, from July 6-11, at the Sugar Bay Resort and Spa for the Caribbean Food Crops Society’s (CFCS) 50th annual meeting to discuss production, marketing and policy issues affecting agriculture in the Caribbean.

Harvard University Professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., a noted literary historian, activist and filmmaker, will be the keynote speaker at the University of the Virgin Islands’ 2014 Commencement Ceremonies scheduled for May 17, on St. Thomas, and for May 18, on St. Croix. Professor Gates is also well known for his numerous PBS documentary presentations, the most recent being the six-part, 2013 series “The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross.” He wrote, executive produced and hosted that award-winning effort.

Today, the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands, in a unanimous vote, authorized President David Hall to commence the development phase for a medical school in the territory.

The media is invited to cover the sixth annual Model United Nations Conference at 10 a.m. on April 16, in the Great Hall of the University of the Virgin Islands’ Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Eight UVI students – four from St. Thomas and four from St. Croix – have conducted significant research on major problems in Jamaica and Belize and will present to the model United Nations, their concerns, solutions and strategies to resolve the issues within their representing country.
